ABOUT

Meet Blair Durnan.
Skater, Therapeutic Recreation Practitioner, and Dad

Blair founded Spectrum Skateboard Society in 2020 out of a sheer passion for skateboarding and AUTISTIC CHILDREN

Blair’s skateboarding story started back in Ontario in the mid 80s at the age of 11. He always found skateboarding to be an incredible outlet for energy and creativity. Blair has lived on the North Shore for the past 20 years and he has continued to skateboard regularly.

Blair graduated with a diploma in Therapeutic Recreation and has extensive experience working with children and youth on the Autism Spectrum. Now that Blair has his own kids, one of whom is Autistic, he’s been reminded first hand of the power of skateboarding for fun and also for building social connections and skills. Blair is so grateful to have the opportunity to bring skateboarding into kids’ lives.

Blair’s ultimate goal with Spectrum Skateboard Society is to give Autistic children and youth a chance to feel cool and a chance to feel like they truly belong.

About our Camps and Lessons

SPECTRUM SKATEBOARD SOCIETY IS ALL ABOUT HAVING A  FUN, SAFE, AND INCLUSIVE SKATEBOARDING EXPERIENCE.

All of our instructors are Level 1 certified skateboard instructors with the International Skateboard Certification Program (ISCP).  During our lessons, we not only teach skateboarding skills, but we also teach how to positively communicate with the other skateboard park users, as well as how to skateboard socially with your fellow skate camp friends.  Click the button below for available lessons and camps.  At this time all lessons and camps are located in North Vancouver.

Angela G says...

My son has been hesitant to try sports and activities, so I was very surprised when he agreed to attend lessons with Spectrum Skateboard Society. I was even more surprised when he came home from the first session with the biggest smile on his face. He absolutely loves skateboarding now!

Blair does an outstanding job with these lessons.
Liz from Vancouver....

My 7-year-old child participated in Spectrum Skateboard Society’s Spring and Summer skate programs, and it was genuinely one of the best experiences my child has had. As an educator, I witnessed Blair’s seamless ability to create a program that met the needs of the children in his care. As a parent, I witnessed my child feel safe (emotionally/physically) and be in an environment where he thrived, was completely himself, and gained an immense amount of confidence.  My child and I are very excited to be a part of Spectrum Skateboard Society’s growing community.

Kyle & Koryn's Experience

We have been so incredibly impressed with Blair from Spectrum Skateboarding Society. Our son has not only loved his time in camp but has learned some amazing skateboarding skills. Blair and Emma have been kind, thoughtful, and encouraging to our son Zachary. Zachary has shown such resilience and commitment to working towards the goals that he sets with Blair. As parents, it is so refreshing to find a camp that our child loves so much and where he feels that he belongs. We highly recommend Spectrum Skateboarding Society to anyone with a child with autism that is interested in skateboarding!
